Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Prepare a medium-hot grill fire or preheat a gas grill to medium-high. Lightly brush one of the following with vegetable oil: 6 large apricots, halved and pitted; 4 large or 6 small bananas, peeled; 6 large figs, stemmed and halved lengthwise; 4 peaches or nectarines, halved and pitted; 6 large juicy plums, halved and pitted; 6 pineapple rings (about ½ inch thick)

  2. Step 2.

Grill the fruits directly over the flames, arranging the halved fruits cut side down. Cook until lightly charred, 2 to 3 minutes. Turn and cook 2 to 3 minutes longer. Serve at once.

  3. Step 3.

    BROILED

  4. Step 4.

Preheat the broiler. Prepare the fruit as directed in version I and place, hollow side up, in a shallow, broilerproof baking pan. Sprinkle lightly with: Sugar; Salt

  5. Step 5.
