  • 6 slices bacon, cut into ¼-inch dice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 ounces pancetta, cut into ¼-inch dice
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large garlic clove, minced
  • 1 dried red chile pepper or ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 pounds fresh plum or Roma tomatoes, peeled, and chopped, or one 28-ounce can whole tomatoes
  • Black pepper
  • Red pepper flakes

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

    This is a perfect hangover dish—you may start your morning feeling hellish, but this will put a spring in your step.

  2. Step 2.

    Prepare Amatriciana Sauce, or add 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes to Marinara Sauce or Tomato Sauce. Make 6 depressions in the sauce and proceed as for Shakshouka, topping the eggs with chopped parsley and (grated Parmesan or Romano). Serve with crusty bread.
