  • Chop Finely chopped white onions

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Warm the chili if using store-bought, or prepare it from scratch and keep warm over low heat.

  2. Step 2.

Finely chop white onions and set aside.

  3. Step 3.

Take a classic hot dog bun and set it aside.

  4. Step 4.

Wrap a beef and pork hot dog with a slice of uncooked bacon, securing the bacon at each end with a wooden toothpick.

  5. Step 5.

Deep-fry the bacon-wrapped hot dog in hot oil (around 350°F) until the bacon is crispy and the dog is heated through, about 3-4 minutes.

  6. Step 6.

Remove the deep-fried hot dog from the oil and discard the toothpicks.

  7. Step 7.

Place the hot dog in the bun and top with a heaping pile of warm chili and a handful of chopped onions.

  8. Step 8.

For a Jersey Breakfast Dog: While the bacon-wrapped hot dog is deep-frying, fry an egg in a small skillet over medium heat until the white is set and the yolk is cooked to your liking. Place the fried egg and a slice or two of American cheese on the bun, then top with the deep-fried hot dog.
