A quick and easy Italian red sauce made from whole peeled tomatoes, basil, and garlic. Perfect as a base for pizza, lasagna, or chicken parmesan.

- 1 fresh basil leaves
- 29.6 ml olive oil
- 29.6 ml sugar

Step 1.
Drain the tomatoes from 2 large cans of whole peeled tomatoes. Place the drained tomatoes in a blender along with a handful of fresh basil leaves and 2 chopped garlic cloves. Blend until the mixture is liquid but still a bit chunky.

Pour the tomato mixture into a large pot. Add 2 tablespoons olive oil, 2 tablespoons sugar, a pinch of oregano, a pinch of dried red pepper flakes, and salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine.

Place the pot over low heat and bring the sauce to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.
