Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
Prepare the Classic Sugar Cookie Dough according to the recipe instructions. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a floured heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out shapes. Place the cut cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart. Bake as directed in the sugar cookie recipe, then transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely before decorating.
-
Step 2.
Once the cookies are completely cool, ice them with the Royal Icing. You can spread the icing with a small offset spatula or pipe it on for a neater finish. Let the icing set completely, about 1 to 2 hours, until firm to the touch.
-
Step 3.
When ready to decorate, in a small bowl, combine a small amount of luster dust with a few drops of vodka, stirring until the powder is dissolved and forms a paintable consistency. Using a clean small brush, paint stripes or desired patterns onto the set icing. Let the painted cookies dry for about 10 minutes before serving or storing.
