Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.

  • 1 1/2 cup leftover salmon
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup plain dried bread crumbs
  • 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil

Prepare

  • Drain 1 can salmon
  • Dice 1 small onion

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the drained salmon (or leftover salmon), diced onion, egg, bread crumbs, garlic powder, seasoning salt, lemon juice, and black pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.

  2. Step 2.

Form the salmon mixture into patties of your desired size and set them aside on a plate.

  3. Step 3.

In a large skillet over medium heat, pour in the vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot (a breadcrumb sizzles when dropped in), add a few patties in a single layer without crowding the pan.

  4. Step 4.

Fry the patties for about 5 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and cooked through. Adjust heat if browning too quickly.

  5. Step 5.

Transfer the cooked croquettes to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm with tartar sauce, as a burger on buns, or alongside grits and eggs.
