It is widely available at Mexican grocery stores and markets. If you cannot find it, Jarritos grapefruit soda is a decent substitute. To avoid using a soft drink altogether, substitute 2 ounces grapefruit juice, 2 ounces club soda or sparkling water, and 1 teaspoon Simple Syrup.

  • 3 ounces Mexican grapefruit soda
  • 2 ounces silver or reposado tequila or mezcal
  • ½ ounce lime juice
  • A grapefruit wedge

  1. Step 1.

    Run around the rim of a chilled rocks or cocktail glass: 1 lime wedge

  2. Step 2.

    Frost the rim of the glass with: Coarse salt

  3. Step 3.

    Add to the glass: 3 ounces Mexican grapefruit soda; 2 ounces silver or reposado tequila or mezcal; ½ ounce lime juice

  4. Step 4.

    Stir, then fill the glass with ice cubes. Garnish with: A grapefruit wedge
