Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients - no prep needed yet.

  • eggs
  • 680 g ground beef or other meat
  • 113 g bread
  • 59.1 ml walnuts
  • 4.93 ml salt
  • Onion and celery salt
  • 118 ml canned tomato paste
  • strips of bacon

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a roasting pan with a bit of fat (such as butter or oil).

  2. Step 2.

In a large bowl, beat 1 or 2 eggs well. Add 1½ lbs ground beef (or other meat), ¼ lb bread (torn into small pieces), ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional), 1 tsp salt, a pinch of onion salt and celery salt, and ½ cup canned tomato paste. Mix thoroughly with your hands or a spoon until all ingredients are evenly combined.

  3. Step 3.

Shape the mixture into a loaf shape and place it in the greased roasting pan. Lay a few strips of bacon on top of the loaf.

  4. Step 4.

Bake the meat loaf in the preheated oven for about 1 hour, basting often with the pan juices. The loaf is done when it is browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F).

  5. Step 5.

Remove the meat loaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve as desired.
