Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.

  • 2 lbs ground beef
  • 2 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 flat noodles
  • 1 tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup

Prepare

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green pepper, finely chopped

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the 2 pounds ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, along with the finely chopped onion and green pepper. Sprinkle in the 2 teaspoons garlic salt early during browning. Cook until the beef is no longer pink and the vegetables are softened, about 8–10 minutes. Drain excess fat if desired.

  2. Step 2.

While the beef mixture cooks, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the 8-ounce package flat noodles and cook until just shy of al dente (about 1–2 minutes less than package directions). Drain the noodles well.

  3. Step 3.

Add the drained noodles to the skillet with the beef mixture. Pour in the 8-ounce can tomato sauce and stir to combine. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the flavors meld and the sauce thickens slightly.

  4. Step 4.

After simmering, add ¼ cup ketchup to the goulash and mix thoroughly. Serve hot, ideally with peanut-buttered white bread and a chilled Dr. Pepper.
