Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and position a rack in the center. While the oven heats, gather your ingredients and a rimmed baking sheet or cookie sheet.

  2. Step 2.

In a medium bowl, mix the cream cheese, vanilla, and sugar until smooth and fully combined. Set the filling aside.

  3. Step 3.

Unroll one can of crescent roll dough onto the cookie sheet, pressing the perforations together to seal them and form a solid rectangle. If needed, lightly grease the sheet or line it with parchment to prevent sticking.

  4. Step 4.

Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough, leaving a 1/4-inch border around the edges. Then spoon the jam over the filling and spread it gently, keeping it within the border.

  5. Step 5.

Unroll the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully lay it over the jam-topped layer, stretching it slightly if needed to cover the filling. Press the edges of the top and bottom dough together to seal the filling inside.

  6. Step 6.

Seal the edges by pressing them with the tines of a fork all the way around the rectangle. This helps prevent the filling from leaking during baking.

  7. Step 7.

Brush the top of the dough with the beaten egg, covering the entire surface for a golden finish. Sprinkle the sliced almonds evenly over the egg wash.

  8. Step 8.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is set. Rotate the pan halfway through if your oven bakes unevenly.

  9. Step 9.

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly on the pan for about 10 minutes before cutting into squares or slices. Serve warm or at room temperature.
