Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.

  • 115 ml balsamic vinegar
  • 29.6 ml soft brown sugar
  • 1 star anise

Prepare

  • 2 medium ripe plums, stoned and cut into quarters
  • 8 large strawberries, hulled and cut into quarters
  • 4 figs, cut into quarters
  • vanilla ice cream, to serve

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

In a small pan over medium heat, combine 115ml balsamic vinegar, 2 tablespoons soft brown sugar, and 1 star anise. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to maintain a gentle simmer. Let the mixture bubble until it has reduced by half, about 5–8 minutes, stirring occasionally. The glaze should be syrupy and coat the back of a spoon.

  2. Step 2.

While the glaze simmers, prepare the fruit: stone and quarter 2 medium ripe plums, hull and quarter 8 large strawberries, and cut 4 figs into quarters.

  3. Step 3.

Arrange the prepared fruit on a serving platter or divide among individual bowls. Drizzle the warm balsamic glaze over the fruit. Serve immediately with vanilla ice cream on the side.
