Wheat Berries With Sautéed Onions And Dried Fruits

Cooked wheat berries combined with sautéed onions, mixed dried fruits, and a hint of cinnamon. A hearty side dish that can be made with butter or olive oil and optional toasted nuts.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 3 cups cooked wheat, spelt, or Kamut berries, or a combination of cooked grains
- 1 cup mixed dried fruits, such as diced dried apricots or pitted prunes, dark or golden raisins, or dried currants, cherries, or cranberries
- 1 cinnamon stick
- ½ cup chicken broth or water
- Salt and black pepper
- (¼ cup chopped toasted blanched almonds, walnuts, or pecans)

Stir in: 3 cups cooked wheat, spelt, or Kamut berries, or a combination of cooked grains; 1 cup mixed dried fruits, such as diced dried apricots or pitted prunes, dark or golden raisins, or dried currants, cherries, or cranberries; 1 cinnamon stick; ½ cup chicken broth or water

Cover and cook over low heat, stirring once or twice, about 10 minutes. Season to taste with: Salt and black pepper
