- 3/4 tsp chilli powder
- 1 15/16 oz sesame seeds
- 1 egg
- 2 bananas
- 3 tbsp clear honey
Prepare
- sunflower oil, for shallow-frying
Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
Pour sunflower oil into a saucepan to a depth of 1.5 cm (5/8 in) and heat over medium-high heat until shimmering, about 2–3 minutes.
-
Step 2.
While the oil heats, sift plain flour, icing sugar, ground cloves, and chilli powder into a large mixing bowl. Add 30 g (1 oz / scant 1/4 cup) of the sesame seeds. Crack in the egg, then slowly whisk in 200 ml (7 fl oz / scant 1 cup) cold water until a smooth batter forms.
-
Step 3.
Peel the bananas and cut them into 1 cm (1/2 in) pieces. Add the banana pieces to the batter and stir gently to coat evenly.
-
Step 4.
Using tongs, carefully transfer a few batter-coated banana pieces to the hot oil, without overcrowding. Fry for 30–45 seconds per side until golden and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on kitchen paper. Repeat with remaining bananas.
-
Step 5.
Transfer the fried bananas to a serving plate. Drizzle with honey and scatter the remaining sesame seeds over the top. Serve immediately.
