Sweet Tea
A classic Southern sweet tea made with black tea, sugar, and a pinch of baking soda to keep it from getting bitter. Serve ice cold with lemon slices.

- 1 gallon water

Step 1.
Bring 1 gallon of water to a rolling boil in a large pot or kettle. Pour the boiling water into a heatproof pitcher or container.

Add 3 family-size black tea bags to the hot water. Let them steep for 15 to 20 minutes, then remove and discard the tea bags.

Stir in 2½ cups granulated sugar and ¼ teaspoon baking soda. Continue stirring until the sugar and baking soda are completely dissolved.

Cover the pitcher and refrigerate until the tea is thoroughly chilled, about 2 hours. Serve over ice and garnish with mint leaves, if desired.
