Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
Divide the pie dough into 8 equal portions. Using a rolling pin, roll each portion into a ¼-inch-thick round on a lightly floured surface.
-
Step 2.
Peel, halve, and core the 8 Granny Smith apples. Place 1 tablespoon of raisins, 1 teaspoon of butter, and 1 teaspoon of packed light brown sugar in the center of one apple half. Place the other half on top to reform the whole apple. Repeat with the remaining apples.
-
Step 3.
Wrap each stuffed apple in a dough round, pinching the seams to seal. Place the wrapped apples in a 9-by-13-inch glass baking dish, seam side down.
-
Step 4.
In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the maple syrup, water, and the remaining butter and brown sugar. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves, about 2–3 minutes.
-
Step 5.
Pour the warm sauce evenly over the wrapped apples in the baking dish. Bake at 400°F for 1 hour, or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender when pierced with a knife.
-
Step 6.
Remove the dumplings from the oven. Spoon any remaining sauce from the baking dish over the dumplings before serving.
