Spiced Ground Meat For Tacos

This crowd-pleasing mixture has been a Mexican-American restaurant staple for nearly a century. Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 pound lean ground beef, pork, chicken, or turkey
- 1 to 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- (2 teaspoons ground coriander)
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes or tomato juice
- Salt or hot sauce

- 1 to 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- (2 teaspoons ground coriander)
- 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes or tomato juice
- Salt or hot sauce
Let's Cook

Step 1.
Heat in a medium skillet over medium heat: 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Add and cook, stirring often, until softened, 4 to 5 minutes: 1 medium onion, chopped

Step 3.
Increase the heat to medium-high, add and cook, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon, until it is no longer pink, about 5 minutes: 1 pound lean ground beef, pork, chicken, or turkey

Step 4.
Add and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds: 1 to 3 garlic cloves, minced; 1 tablespoon chili powder; 2 teaspoons ground cumin; (2 teaspoons ground coriander)

Step 5.
Add, reduce the heat to low, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 10 minutes: 1 cup canned crushed tomatoes or tomato juice

Season to taste with: Salt or hot sauce

Use as a filling for Tacos and Burritos, as a topping for Nachos, or let the meat cool and use it to stuff Chiles Rellenos.
