Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.

  • 1/2 tsp absinthe
  • 1 Peychaud's bitters
  • 1/2 tsp simple syrup
  • 2 oz rye
  • lemon twist

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Chill an Old Fashioned glass by filling it with ice or placing it in the freezer for a few minutes. Discard any ice or water before proceeding.

  2. Step 2.

Pour ½ teaspoon of absinthe into the chilled glass and swirl it around to coat the bottom and sides. Discard any excess absinthe if desired.

  3. Step 3.

Add 1 dash of Peychaud’s bitters and ½ teaspoon of simple syrup to the glass. Stir gently to combine.

  4. Step 4.

Pour 2 ounces of rye whiskey into the glass and stir briefly to mix all ingredients.

  5. Step 5.

Twist a strip of lemon peel over the glass to release its oils, then rub the rim of the glass with the peel. Drop the twist into the drink as a garnish.
