  • ¼ cup milk
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 ⅓ cup almond paste, store-bought or homemade, or ½ cup almond meal or flour
  • (3 tablespoons chopped candied citron)
  • (2 teaspoons lemon juice or 1 teaspoon vanilla)

    Grind in a spice grinder: ½ cup poppy seeds

    Put the poppy seeds in a small saucepan and add: ¼ cup milk

    Bring to a boil, then remove from the heat and stir in: ⅓ cup packed brown sugar; 2 tablespoons butter

    Stir in: 2 large egg yolks
