- 1 pack Pillsbury crescent dinner rolls
- French's yellow mustard
Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
Cut 8 hot dogs into bite-size pieces by slicing them at right angles with a sharp knife, or whack them with the edge of a spatula on a hard surface.
-
Step 2.
Place the hot dog pieces in a bowl and pour 1 can of beer over them. Let sit until the foam subsides, then drain the beer into a glass and drink it (or discard).
-
Step 3.
Sprinkle the beer-soaked hot dog pieces with chili powder to taste, tossing to coat evenly.
-
Step 4.
Preheat the oven according to the Pillsbury crescent roll package directions. Unroll the dough and separate into triangles. Place a few hot dog pieces on the wide end of each triangle and roll up, sealing the edges. Arrange on a baking sheet.
-
Step 5.
Bake the pigs in a blanket according to the package directions, then add 5 minutes (or 10 minutes if at high altitude like Denver). Check frequently with a flashlight; the crust should be one shade lighter than the hot dog. Be patient.
-
Step 6.
Remove the pigs from the oven or toaster oven. Do not use a microwave, as it affects the beer flavor.
-
Step 7.
Transfer the cooked pigs to the same bowl used for soaking the hot dogs. If serving guests, provide each person with their own squeeze bottle of French's yellow mustard (avoid thick, grainy mustard as it won't stick).
-
Step 8.
Let the pigs cool slightly by tossing them from hand to hand before squeezing mustard on them. Serve with cold beer and enjoy the game.
