6 servings The best mushrooms for grilling directly on grill grates are portobellos, large maitakes, lobsters, chicken of the woods, and large shiitakes. For smaller mushrooms, use a grill basket or grill pan, or roast them instead, above.

Prepare a medium-hot grill fire. Remove the stems from: 2 pounds mushrooms

Toss in a bowl with: ¼ cup olive oil; ½ teaspoon salt; ½ teaspoon black pepper
