Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients - no prep needed yet.

  • flour
  • baking powder
  • sugar
  • salt
  • beer
  • melted butter
  • herbs

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

    Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Step 2.

In a mixing bowl combine the flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.

  3. Step 3.

Add the beer all at once, mixing as little as possible. Stir until all the flour is absorbed. The batter will be slightly lumpy.

  4. Step 4.

Pour batter into a 9x5x3 inch greased loaf pan.

  5. Step 5.

With clean fingers, smear melted butter over the top.

  6. Step 6.

Optional: sprinkle herbs on top before baking.

  7. Step 7.

Bake about 1 hour or until golden brown on top. The loaf will make a hollow sound when you thump it on top when it's done. Better to be a little over cooked than under cooked.

  8. Step 8.

    Remove from pan to cool.
