    In a medium bowl, whisk together ½ cup yellow cornmeal, ½ cup all-purpose flour, ½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon baking powder, and ½ teaspoon baking soda until evenly combined.

    In another medium bowl, whisk together 1 large egg and ¾ cup whole milk until smooth.

  3. Step 3.

    Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir with a spoon or spatula just until a batter forms. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine. Use the batter immediately to coat hot dogs.
