Let's Prepare

Collect

Gather these ingredients - no prep needed yet.

  • 1 Chocolate Cake dough
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 Basic Sugar glaze

Let's Cook

  1. Step 1.

Prepare one batch of Chocolate Cake dough according to its recipe. After mixing the wet ingredients into the dry, stir in ⅓ cup chocolate chips by hand until evenly distributed.

  2. Step 2.

Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts and holes. Reroll scraps and cut again.

  3. Step 3.

Heat oil in a deep fryer or large heavy pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the doughnuts in batches, about 1–2 minutes per side, until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

  4. Step 4.

Allow the fried doughnuts to cool slightly, about 5 minutes, until warm but not hot. While they cool, prepare one batch of Basic Sugar Glaze according to its recipe.

  5. Step 5.

Dip the tops of the warm doughnuts into the glaze, letting excess drip off. Place on a wire rack to set, about 10 minutes. Serve the doughnuts at room temperature.
