Caipirinha
1 serving The classic Brazilian cocktail. Using whole pieces of lime with the peel adds a bitter complexity to this simple drink. To make a Caipiroska, substitute vodka for the cachaça.

Gather these ingredients — no prep needed yet.
- 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons sugar or raw sugar
- 2 ounces cachaça
Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
Halve crosswise: 1 lime
-
Step 2.
Reserve half of the lime for another use, cut the other half into quarters, and place the lime quarters in a chilled old-fashioned glass. Add: 2 teaspoons sugar or raw sugar
-
Step 3.
Muddle the lime pieces with the sugar just enough to extract the juice (bruising the lime peel too much will make the drink overly bitter). Add: 2 ounces cachaça
-
Step 4.
Stir to dissolve the sugar. Fill the chilled glass with roughly crushed ice and stir to chill.
