Let's Cook
-
Step 1.
In a large sauté pan over medium heat, brown the ground beef and sausage, breaking up the meat with a spoon, until no longer pink, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain off the fat.
-
Step 2.
Add the chopped onion to the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until translucent, 3 to 5 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic, chunky pasta sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
-
Step 3.
While the sauce simmers, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the spaghetti until al dente according to package directions. Drain the pasta and set aside.
-
Step 4.
Preheat the oven to 350°F.
-
Step 5.
In a 9-by-13-inch baking dish, spread one-third of the meat sauce evenly over the bottom. Layer half of the cooked spaghetti over the sauce, then top with another third of the sauce. Sprinkle half of the shredded yellow cheddar and half of the shredded white cheddar over the sauce. Repeat the layers with the remaining spaghetti, remaining sauce, and remaining cheeses.
-
Step 6.
Bake the spaghetti uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are lightly browned. Let cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
